Definitions of Employee Engagement

The term employee engagement has become widely used. Exact descriptions of it include The Conference Boards definition: “a heightened emotional connection that an employee feels for his or her organization, that influences him or her to exert greater discretionary effort to his or her work”; MetLife Mature Market Institutes definition: “engagement” as “a positive, enthusiastic, and affective connection with work that motivates an employee to invest in getting the job done, not just ‘well’ but ‘with excellence’”; and BlessingWhite‘s ‘formula’ for recognizing engagement: high satisfaction (+) high contribution. Regardless of the exact definition, this YouTube video seems to capture much of the spirit (and is great fun to watch).
