79% of Global 500 Recruiting on Corporate Web Sites

Annual Study Shows Dramatic Growth of "Web Site Recruiters"

San Francisco, CA – (BUSINESS WIRE) – May 10, 2000 –

Continuing a steady trend among the world’s largest companies, 79% now recruit on their corporate Web sites, up dramatically from only 29% in 1998. The third annual "Global 500 Web Site Recruiting, 2000 Survey" also reveals another significant milestone: universal adoption of the Web by the Global 500 companies. Released today, the survey was conducted by iLogos Research, a division of Recruitsoft. Based in San Francisco, Recruitsoft is a leading provider of Web-based Hiring Management Systems for corporations.

Yves Lermusiaux, head of the iLogos Research division of Recruitsoft, and a recognized expert on Internet recruiting, commented: "We see in this year’s results a strong affirmation that all businesses are Internet businesses. Every company surveyed now uses its Web site to some extent in its operations. And recruiting now appears to be the ‘killer app’ for corporate Web sites.

"Assuming current trends continue," he added, "we expect that all Global 500 companies will be ‘Web Site Recruiters’ by 2002. It’s also clear that Internet technologies will increasingly centralize and integrate the entire corporate recruiting process into an e-business supply chain."

Other significant trends identified in this report include the gradual adoption and refinement of methods by which the Global 500 are recruiting today. Among corporations using their Web sites for recruiting, nearly half are "basic" in their use; that is, they use their Web site to provide basic information and possibly post job openings, but encourage candidates to apply through more traditional hiring channels, such as mail and fax.

In contrast, some corporate Web sites have highly sophisticated recruiting sections that leverage more completely the power of the Internet for their recruiting application process. These are categorized in the study as "e-centric."

Geographic Trends
Consistent with the geographic distribution of the Internet economy, the survey found that 92% of North American-based companies are using their corporate Web sites for recruiting: 71% are e-centric, and 21% are basic. Europe is not far behind with nearly three quarters (73%) of Global 500 companies headquartered there engaging in recruiting on their Web sites. The Asia Pacific region has the greatest proportion of companies that do not use their Web sites for recruiting (32%), and the highest level of basic "Web Site Recruiters" (57%).

Predictions
The Recruitsoft/iLogos Research "Global 500 Web Site Recruiting, 2000 Survey" makes several predictions regarding the near-term future of corporate Web site recruiting:

  • By 2001, more than 90% of the Global 500 will recruit on their corporate Web sites to some extent; all will do so by 2002.
  • More than 70% of the companies will be e-centric recruiters by 2001, 90% by 2002 and 100% by 2003.
  • Corporate Web sites will become the visible public side of an Internet-based hiring management system integrating recruiting from all sources including job boards, print media, job fair and employee referral programs.
  • State-of-the-art Web-based recruiting processes and systems will bring increased efficiencies and productivity to the corporate recruiting process.
  • "Web Site Recruiters" will benefit regardless of economic conditions. Features of automated hiring management systems, such as Web-based candidate pre-screening and multiple sourcing, will make the recruiting process more efficient and effective whether candidates are scarce or abundant.

The Digital Challenge
Acknowledged as a critical component of corporate success, recruiting can benefit from powerful new tools that optimize locating, qualifying and hiring new people. As Mr. Lermusiaux explains: "The gap between recruiters will soon be closed by the increasing availability and use of sophisticated and powerful Web-based recruiting systems that can integrate and centralize the entire process.

"Over the next three years, the challenge for the majority of Global 500 companies will be to recast their entire recruiting processes into an e-centric business process," he concluded.
