History & Timeline

Taleo's roots date back to 1996, when founder Martin Ouellet created Viasite, which became the most successful job board in Canada. In Quebec City, Canada, Mr. Ouellet and Louis Tetu began to work with visionary Fortune 500 companies to develop innovative online recruiting solutions that could meet world-class talent and human capital management needs.

 

1996: Martin Ouellet establishes job board Viasite

Taleo's roots date back to 1996, when founder Martin Ouellet created Viasite, which became the most successful job board in Canada. In Quebec City, Canada, Mr. Ouellet and Louis Tetu began to work with visionary Fortune 500 companies to develop innovative online recruiting solutions that could meet world-class talent and human capital management needs.

1998: Louis Tetu Adds Supply Chain Innovation

With a background in supply chain management, Mr. Tetu understood the value that leveraging such concepts could bring to the recruiting and talent management processes of global corporations. Coupled with the power and connectivity of the internet, talent supply chain management would soon deliver the same bottom-line and process improvement benefits to large enterprises that supply chain management had brought to manufacturing.

1999: Taleo Founded and Launches Recruiter WebTop™

Registered as a Delaware corporation and with a headquarters established in San Francisco, Taleo launched the first version of its solution, Recruiter WebTop, in September 1999 after spending a full year in development. The month following its debut, Recruiter WebTop was named one of the Top Ten Products of the Year by HR Executive Magazine.

2001: Taleo Goes Global

Taleo quickly opened offices in New York, Chicago, Montreal, and Toronto. In August 2001, the company established offices in Paris and Amsterdam. In 2003 and 2004, Taleo continued this global expansion with offices in the United Kingdom and Australia.

2003: Taleo Acquires White Amber

In October, 2003, Taleo acquired White Amber, Inc., a leading provider of temporary workforce management solutions with the industry's largest clients. The acquisition, which created the Taleo Contingent™ solution, extends the value Taleo delivers to enterprise customers seeking to manage both permanent employees and temporary workers, including contingent and service contractors, by integrating all sources of talent onto one platform. With complete workforce visibility into salaried, hourly, and contingent talent, organizations can not only identify opportunities for cost-saving process improvements, but also determine when it is in their best interest to hire permanent employees versus temporary workers.

2005: Taleo Acquires Recruitforce.com

In April 2005, Taleo acquired Recruitforce.com, which provided the applications and technology that have become Taleo Business Edition™. Taleo Business Edition runs on an open Web Services API, so developers can more easily build integration solutions and custom applications to connect candidate and requisition data. Now, even small businesses can run Taleo Business Edition with their HR, finance, and payroll systems.

2006: Taleo Positioned in Gartner Leaders Quadrant

In 2006, Gartner published its first Magic Quadrant for E-Recruitment. Taleo achieved the distinction of being positioned in the Leaders Quadrant for meeting the challenges of complex global organizations with a deep focus on talent management, well-articulated strategy, completeness of vision, and strong ability to execute.

2007: Taleo Acquires JobFlash and WetFeet Recruiter

In 2007, Taleo acquired JobFlash and added IVR, interview scheduling, bilingual phone hiring, and high-volume hourly capabilities to Taleo's enterprise and small business offerings. Later that year, Taleo strengthened retail capabilities by acquiring WetFeet Inc.'s web-based recruiting product called WetFeet Recruiter, including associated intellectual property, technology, and customers.

2008: Taleo Launches Performance Management

Taleo delivered the first unified recruiting and performance management solution that significantly increases employee engagement and better aligns workforces with corporate objectives. Taleo Performance combines goals management, performance reviews, succession planning, and career management with the industry's most reliable and scalable on demand talent management platform.

2008: Taleo Acquires Vurv

This acquisition enhanced Taleo's leadership position in talent management while giving the company additional scale, resources, and expertise to meet the growing market demand for talent management solutions. The combined company featured a broader product set, expanded development team and talent management expertise, and a stronger international presence.

2009: Taleo Launches Compensation

Taleo signed a definitive agreement to acquire strategic partner Worldwide Compensation, Inc. and offer three integrated components for managing a talent-optimized organization: Taleo Recruiting to source, assess, and acquire employees; Taleo Performance to connect goals, performance reviews, career development, and succession plans; and Taleo Compensation to establish a true pay-for-performance process linking corporate objectives and individual contributions.

2010: Taleo Acquires Learn.com

With the acquisition of Learn.com, a visionary leader in SaaS learning and development, Taleo extended its solution offerings to include all the critical components for managing a talent-optimized organization. Social learning and web conferencing features provide companies with critical tools to build collaborative learning and knowledge sharing solutions connected to the entire employee talent management lifecycle.

2011: Taleo Acquires JobPartners

The Jobpartners acquisition expanded Taleo’s global talent management leadership, making the company one of the largest SaaS talent management vendors in Europe. Taleo doubled its European customer base and more than doubled its professional team in Europe to better serve the region.

2011: 5,000+ Customers / 140 Partners / 200,000,000 Candidates

Today, Taleo maintains its headquarters in the San Francisco Bay Area and a research and development facility in Quebec City, where the company employs hundreds of people focused solely on talent management applications. Taleo delivers a comprehensive suite of solutions for businesses of all sizes, matching all sources of talent-including professional and hourly candidates, agency referrals, campus recruits, contingent workers, or existing employees to all positions, whether they are centralized, decentralized, or multinational.
